The world famous ski area of Kitzbuhel Hahnenkamm
The main ski area accessed from the ski resort of Kitzbuhel is reached via Kitzbuhel Hahnenkammbahn (lift).
From the top station, the start of the mens FIS downhill race, the Kitzbuhel Hahnenkamm is visible, as are the precipitous drops that racers experience within seconds of launching from the start hut. For other mountain users the main ski area is located along a flat ridge that leads into the start of the main ski area and lift system. This area is not great for snowboarders as it includes several flat sections that require polling. Taking lifts after the traverse takes the skier or rider to the main ski area around Steinbergkogel and further on the Pengelstein. The way back to Kitzbuhel is via sections of the mens downhill course (the more difficult sections of which can be avoided) or via the Kitzbuhel Hahnenkammbahn. The majority of the skiing in the Kitzbuhel Hahnenkamm ski area is intermediate.
