Snowboarding in Kitzbuhel
With a half pipe / border cross area and an international guest and resort staff profile, Kitzbuhel has a flourishing snowboarding community.
Snowboarding in Austria definitely plays second fiddle to skiing, but in the some resorts like Kitzbuhel and St Anton the truly international staff and visitor profile creates a real snowboarding community. Snowboarding has a good following in Kitzbuhel. On the quieter, sunnier Kitzbuheler Horn side of the valley, snowboarding has its roots with a half-pipe / border cross area. This tends to be the most popular snowboarding area around Kitzbuhel, since on the Kitzbuhel Hahnenkamm side of Kitzbuhel, there are several annoying flats that quite a bit of effort to traverse. Once in this area then the terrain is fine and the off-piste, impressive in places. There are also the steeps of the Hahnenkamm to tackle although these tend to become mogul routes away from the race weekend when a vertical ice rink is created.
